During your consultation, you will review the steps of your surgery. At this visit, Dr. Bolourian will help you select the correct size and shape of implant to achieve your desired results. He will also provide detailed pre-operative instructions, which may include beginning a round of antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection. When it comes to facial implants Mission Viejo cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Bolourian, performs them as an outpatient procedure in our fully-equipped onsite surgical facility. Most facial implant surgeries take an hour or less. Local anesthesia is typically used for implant surgery, but I.V. Sedation is also available. Dr. Bolourian will begin by creating an incision in a discreet location. He generally places midface implants via incisions inside the mouth, meaning there is no visible scarring. Chin implants can also be placed intraorally or through an incision concealed in the natural crease of the chin. Cheek Implants: These implants come in a variety of sizes and shapes to augment the cheek and zygoma. One of the most common implants used to augment the midface is a combined submalar shell implant. These implants are ideal to correct malar hypoplasia and midface deficiencies.The submalar facial implants are very useful in adding volume to lower midfacial fullness and softening the nasolabial folds.
Posterior and lateral mandibular angle Implants: This implant is ideal to strengthen the posterior jaw line for a sharp, well distinct structured jaw or jaw angle.
Temporal Implants: The newest facial implants design are for temporal hollowness. Sunken or indented temples can be permanently augmented using temporal implants. The implant is gently placed over the temporalis muscle to augment the hollow appearing temples.
FACIAL IMPLANTS – OPERATION:"" Whether done as an isolated procedure or as part of other facial rejuvenation procedures, cheek and chin implants are done under local anesthesia with light twilight sedation or general anesthesia. They are placed either through an incision in the mouth or small skin incisions under the chin. The implant(s) are always secured to the bone with screws to prevent postoperative shifting. All incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures.
FACIAL IMPLANTS – AFTER SURGERY: Implanted facial sites do not need to be bandaged, although one may be applied if facelift procedures are done in conjunction. Bruising is minimal with facial implant surgery but swelling will take several weeks to completely subside and the final results be evident. Complications with facial implants are very infrequent. Facial implants are well tolerated in facial areas and infection is very uncommon. More likely concerns may be aesthetic in nature such as the size or position of the implant(s).
